“Today” Exec Producer to Cover NBCU 2012 Olympics

NBCU's 2012 London OlympicsNBC Sports proclaimed that Jim Bell, “Today” executive producer will also be the executive producer for the coverage of NBCUniversal of the 2012 London Olympics.

Bell, who will go on to oversee “Today”, will have editorial oversight over Olympics coverage.  He worked for the NBC Sports and Olympics for 16 years prior to joining “Today” in 2005.

Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBC Sports Group said, “Jim’s unique background in both sports and news at NBCUniversal makes him the perfect choice to lead our London Olympics production.”

NBC Sports & Olympics profession of Bell started in 1990 when he worked on the profiles for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.  In 2004 he became a coordinating producer for NBC Olympics, overlooking closely 100 hours of afternoon and late night coverage throughout the 2004 Athens Olympics.

He won Emmys for his work on the 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2002 Olympics and a Peabody for NBC’s coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony.  Throughout his time at “Today” it has guided in the ratings and achieved five Emmys, 7 Edward R. Murrow Awards and 9 Headliner Awards.
