		<description>Great post. He was indeed quite the pioneer that broke the mould of backwardness that plagued that time period. Another example I can think of is Wendell Scott, who was the first African-American to win a race in the NASCAR racing series, which at the time, was a deep-south sport exclusively and the amount of hatred and bigotry he had to face in order to be able to chase his dream is unbelievable. I read his book recently, called &#039;Hard Driving&#039; and it was quiet an eye-opener.
