Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao settled a defamation complaint against Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer and President Oscar De La Hoya after he made a public apology to him, in a statement made by their attorney.
The terms of arrangement of Pacquiao with Oscar de La Hoya, his fellow boxer and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions were held confidential, according to attorney Daniel Petrocelli.
Messages left with attorney Jeffrey Spitz the lawyer of Schaefer and De La Hoya were not returned.
Pacquiao alleged in his suit that he has not at all tested any kind of asteroid for some performance-enhancing drugs, however de La Hoya and Schaefer together with boxing challenger Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the father and uncle of Mayweather gathered on a campaign to make people believe that Pacquiao used drugs.
Mayweather and his family members were not involved in the arrangement and that the suit would go on against them, Petrocelli said. Mark Tratos, Mayweather lawyer did not return a call.
News of the settlement approached around six weeks after a federal judge in Nevada refused a defense motion arguing that case of Pacquiao lacked merit and inquiring for its dismissal.
