by Macmarlon on November 21, 2011

Roger Federer vs Rafael NadalWhen we think about tennis, even if you are a complete newbie, you definitely knows something about two of the most charismatic tennis icons Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. They continue an old tennis tradition of intense rivalries that streches over the years, Federer being the favorite on hard surfaces and Nadal on clay.

Well served aces, powerful backhands, precise movement and a Swiss watch tempo. This could be a short description of the tennis machine called Roger Federer also known as Fed Express or Maestro. He held the number one position for a record 237 consecutive weeks wining an amazing 16 Grand Slam titles and played in 23 finals, also holding the record of reaching ten consecutive Grand Slam finals. In 2008 he won the Olympic Gold Medal in doubles after some amazing games. After his amazing results in tennis he was voted as the Sportsman of the year on four consecutive years from 2005 to 2008. He is curently ranked as World No. 4.

Federer’s rival, Rafael Nadal, is currently ranked as No.2 after relinquishing his No 1 position in 2011 to Novak Djokovic. As his fans like to call him “The King of Clay” many experts feel that he could be the greatest clay court player of all time. He has won 10 Grand Slams so far, an Olimpic Gold Medal and 3 Davis Cup title with Spanish team. He played against Federer in 19 tournament finals and won 13 of them.

As many consider their rivalry to be the greatest in tennis history, it is a privilage for the viewer to see their clashes in which grandeour and gods are divided by a net and their victories are decided by a rubbery green ball.

The rivalry will start once both teams give tough fight to each other and the matches goes to wire as recently happened in Australia. If the matches are won by each team easily, there will not be much interest in the series and as such there will not be much rivalry in the series.

Novak, Nadal, and Murray are all not on top of their game for various reasons. Novak and Murray because of their physical ailments, while Nadal more because of mental issues. I expect Roger to take this tournament.

Just a random thought I know every other player would get in a fight right away but federer is so nice to hit someone as I know him personally. Let’s suppose he is playing a match against a rookie who plays really well but wasn’t able to overcome Roger and he gets frustrated and slaps federer on the court so how do you think federer would react. Same thing happened to David beckham as he was slapped by a rookie player sometime back.

I definitely consider it one of the best rivalries in the history of the sport, if not the best one and very feel privileged to be around to witness it take place. They will be talking about them for a very long time to come.

I think Roger federer will be breaking the record of pete sampras very easily and he will get it first.Rafael nadal will be able to cross the record of bjorn borg but it will take more time than that of Roger federer record.

With Djokovic’s recent victory against Nadal, it seems like these two will be the new rivalry that everyone will be talking about for many years to come. It’s great to see new challengers coming up.

These players both seem to be fairly equally matched which makes the rivalry that much more intense. Federer and Nadal are the only pair of men to have finished six consecutive calendar years as the top two ranked players on the ATP Tour
