Kendrick Perkins Pleads Not Guilty

perkins_kendrickOklahoma City Thunder starting center Kendrick Perkins has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct and is scheduled to appear in court September 30.

Perkins entered his appeal by mail through attorney Langston Adams, according to files released to The Associated Press on Thursday after an open records request.  Perkins was arrested just after 2 a.m. Saturday in Beaumont, Texas, where an event for his charitable organization was being held.

A spokeswoman for Perkins, Denise White, says doctors taught Perkins to remain in bed and drink fluids after he passed out while playing dominoes at Milwaukee Bucks guard Stephen Jackson’s home last Thursday.

Perkins missed the charity event Friday before attending an after party but White says Perkins did not have ‘one drop of alcohol’.

perkinsHours after skipping the celeb game and banquet at his basketball camp on Friday, Oklahoma City center Kendrick Perkins was arrested in Beaumont, Texas, on public intoxication and disorderly behavior charges.

Perkins had a disagreement with management at “The Ticket,” a club in Beaumont, according to KDFM.com.  Police informed the website that Perkins was attempting to fight the manager of the club, shouting obscenities and fighting with those who had removed him from the club.

Perkins was arrested and brought to Jefferson Country Jail, and he bailed $150.  He faces a penalty of $500 on the offense charges, according to the report.

Perkins had skipped the festivities at his camp after a reported incident Thursday night in which a 27-year-old man was brought from the home of the NBA player Stephen Jackson in Port Arthur in an ambulance and treated for minor damages before being released.

A representative for Perkins informed KDFM.com that Perkins was instructed by the doctors to rest, leading to the game being cancelled and his no-show at the banquet.

Perkins used his first seven-plus years with the Boston Celtics prior to being traded to Oklahoma City during last season.  He signed a four-year contract with $34.8 million extension in a while following the trade.

A hard post defender, Perkins averaged 5.1 points and 7.9 rebounds after the trade and assisted the Thunder arrive the Western Conference finals.
