Uruguay Will Set Quarterfinal Against Argentina

Copa America 2011Uruguay conquered Mexico 1-0 to book a quarterfinal versus host Argentina at soccer’s Copa America, while Chile beat Peru by similar score to win their group.

Alvaro Pereira scored in the 14th minute to provide Uruguay the success in La Plata in the previous night. An injury-time own goal from Peru defender Andre Carrillo in Mendoza earlier guaranteed Chile of first place in Group C with seven points.

Uruguay ended with five points and after that faces archrival Argentina, with whom it allocates a list 14 titles in South America’s continental championship, for a place in the semifinals.  Their quarterfinal is planned on July 16 in Santa Fe.

The additional last-eight matchups will be chosen nowadays when Paraguay plays Venezuela and Brazil gets on Ecuador in the ultimate Group B games. The top two groups and the two third-place nations with the greatest records advance from the group stage.
